Golf. The game of all games. Sometimes it drags us into the sand and other times it flies like an eagle straight into the hole. Whether you walk the course at sunrise or round the turn at sunset I think we can all say that this game has our heart.
My heart was clenched tight this morning with emotion, but it burst open reminding me what it means to "play golf". I had the honor to welcome a dear family to our course to remember a much adored woman who passed on. This classy lady was beloved by her family and all of us at Monona. My partner-in-crime, aka the best Superintendent in the business, Shannon Barstow, came up with the idea to dedicate a bench on the course in her honor. League friends, fellow golfers and our team donated the funds to purchase the bench. This morning the immediate family arrived for the dedication and was surrounded by her Monona Golf course family. My heart burst open because it reminds me that golf is about the friends who become family on and off the course. In between willing the ball to sit or lamenting the dreaded sh*!*@ we talk about the dogeared turns in life as friends do because, heck, we've all been in the rough! As the summer golf season draws to a close take a moment and think about the family we've built in this game. As for me, THANK YOU for enriching my life with your friendship and extended family!

While it is my honor to be your partner in crime, it speaks more to what kind of person Phyllis was to have motivated so many people to step forward. The idea seemed like the only logical thing to do.

This is why you are my partner in crime. We both love the game and the many things it brings to each one of us. There is a special connection with this game that can't be broken.
